Yoga for ME –Certificated Residential course
Tutor - Fiona Agombar By the end of the course, teachers will be given the contacts so that they will be able to set up either specialised ME /Chronic Fatigue Syndrome support groups, or will be able to integrate students who are recovering in to their classes – or will feel equipped to teach one to one. The cost of this residential course includes the cost of a shared bedroom and full board, including teas, coffees, biscuits and fruit. There is limited single-room accommodation on a first come first served basis at a £10 per night supplement. There is also limited single-room en-suite accommodation at a supplement of £20 per night. Towels are not supplied, but can be provided on request for £3 each The purpose of this retreat is to:
Give yoga teachers and interested health professionals a clear understanding of what Chronic Fatigue/ME is and how it affects the mind/body/spirit both from a medical point of view and from the yoga energetic point of view
· look at the differences between ME and Chronic Fatigue and other illnesses which are included under the umbrella of CFS· examine how ME impacts on people culturally and to understand the ME personality and ME as a rajasic condition· explain the fight or flight response and how this can be calmed down using the breath and relaxation techniques to help with symptoms and· examine CFS/ME as a spiritual crisis. Getting back in touch with the authentic Self. Fiona Agombar had ME for 15 years but recovered thanks to following a yoga lifestyle with the guidance of her teachers Bill Feeney and Angela Stephens. She wrote Beat Fatigue with Yoga in 1997 and was Trustee of Action for ME for 10 years. She originally trained with the Yoga for Health Foundation, then undertook their remedial training in 2005. She has spent time at the Vyasa ashram in Bangalore studying yoga and is currently training as a KHYF teacher. Her mentor is Gill Lloyd. Fiona teaches retreats and workshops for those with ME all over the UK and in Turkey. She has just completed a course on the Patanjali Sutras with Desikachar and Kastaub and is currently studying Vedanta with her teacher Ram, a disciple of Swami Chinmayananda and Sw Dayananda. She is a regular contributor to Yoga and Health magazine.
