Ways to Stay

1. Private Retreats
minimum stay 2 nights

Would you like time out to explore your inner Self in a beautiful natural environment? Do you long for peace and solitude or perhaps the company of other friendly holistically-minded people?

Here at Gaunts House a private retreat is an opportunity to heal, contemplate and deeply reflect. As such private retreats are not scheduled and programmed but remain flexible and adaptable to allow you the freedom to enjoy the peace, space and friendship that is here.

During your stay, you will be provided with lovingly prepared vegetarian meals. Catering Manager Kerri Joy and her team have a reputation for providing freshly produced, delicious home cooked vegetarian cuisine. According to season and availability we like to use our own organic Gaunts Estate produce.  For menu details visit:  VENUE

Private retreatants are welcome to join in-house activities, which include: silent meditation (free), occasional Community events and activities, Yoga (when available - please enquire), Aromatherapy, Swedish Massage and Reflexology. Therapy prices are capped at £30 per hour in order to make them available to as many people as possible. Find out more about our in-house therapies here on this page.

Discounts only apply for stays of one week or more - please enquire.

2. Working Holidays

Are you a little short of funds this year and unable to afford a holiday away?  Then coming to Gaunts on a Working Holiday may be the solution.

If you enjoy: fresh air, tranquil surroundings, glorious countryside; good, fresh and healthy vegetarian food mixed with the company of warm, friendly people - then come along and lend a hand in one or more of our departments; Catering, Housekeeping, Gardens and Grounds, Maintenance and Administration. You will be asked to work a total of around 25 hours per week which is normally 8am-1pm Mon to Fri.

Your accommodation will be in a basic 'cell' or appartment type room, with shared facilities. Room upgrades may be available at a supplement - please enquire. All your meals will be taken with the community and staff who will be pleased for you to join in with any activities they may have arranged.

Time off can be arranged, leaving you time to explore the house, grounds and local area.  Bournemouth, Poole and the Purbecks are nearby and well worth a visit.

The cost of these weeks is £95 per person which is a contribution towards all meals (delicious homemade vegetarian) and simple shared facility accommodation. To apply please write in to us with your full details and your ideal dates.

3. WWOOFers  -  (membership required) - http://www.wwoof.org.uk/

Guests coming to stay at Gaunts on the WWOOF scheme are asked to provide their services for five hours per day, 6 days a week (up to 30 hours per week) normally under the supervision of the gardening team.  We have a large Victorian walled garden which is being brought back to life by the dedicated team. You will be asked to work mainly here and around the grounds, fbeds and borders, sometimes clearing woodland and maintaining the walks around the lake or perhaps helping with the selection of organic vegetables we grow in season.

As we run residential courses here there are times when you may be asked to help out with washing up or chores around the house. This would generally only be for the odd session here and there and not on a regular basis.

On the WWOOFers scheme, volunteers do not pay to stay with hosts and hosts do not pay volunteers for their help – your accommodation and food are given in exchange for your services.

It is suggested that you bring warm, comfortable clothes suitable for outdoor gardening work as well as leisure clothing.  Protective toed boots/shoes are necessary as are Wellington boots. Gardening gloves and equipment are provided.

You will be allocated a small, basic single room with shared bathroom for the duration of your stay and you will be responsible for this during the time you are here and we request that it’s left in the condition in which you find it.

If the above appeals to you then please complete in full the application form – which you can download by clicking HERE. We will then arrange a mutually suitable time for you to join us.  This will normally be for an initial two weeks, and should you wish to stay longer - then your situation will be reviewed.

PLEASE ASK for a copy of our new Gaunts House WWOOFers Charter.

(We regret that we are unable to accept you if you cannot commit to a minimum of two weeks.)

Please remember that for insurance reasons, you have to be over 18 years to WWOOF in the UK, unless you are accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.

7. Workshops and Courses

We host a wide variety of residential workshops and courses in our year round calendar. These are individually selected based on recommendation, quality and their perceived level of benefit to you, the visitor.

Being a registered UK charity, we are not simply a commercial venture centred on realising ever increasing profits, but are here to provide a homely, quality and safe support to personal development and growth in a unique and outstanding environment - an environment dedicated and designed to support Profound Learning and the transformation of human consciousness.

Please visit the events calendar by clicking HERE to view course and workshop details.

8. Camping

Gaunts has extensive and beautiful camping space. This is available for the Summer Gathering as well as some workshops and retreats – although we are not open as a campsite.

We love campers on the Garden lawn, (no cars please), and on the grounds around the house, (cars O.K. but for in front of the front door). There is a newly renovated (2010) dedicated 'Camping Block' consisting of showers, loos and basins, with a kitchen sink, overlooking the Garden lawn. And we have our own mobile Field Facilities for 1,000, (showers, loos & basins). Additionally, we have made underground provision, (electricity, water, drainage), for 5,000 campers on the grounds immediately around the house.

We look forward to seeing you soon at Gaunts!
